Barn Raiser: The Card GameBarn Raiser is a game that we created with a specific, charitable goal in mind. We wanted to create a fun and unique card game to help raise money to help the Clark family build out a barn on their property to help serve the community. This family could use the barn to help those in need of shelter, be a venue for community events, host worship groups and be used as a music studio for faith-based recordings. We want to do our part to help them raise the money they need to make this dream possible. And with your help, we can help make that happen. All profits from this game go to that family.

About the GameGame Setup
The six building cards are placed in the center of the table: Clear the Grounds, Foundation, Framing, Roof and Exterior Walls If there are 4 players, each player is dealt 6 cards. If there are 3 players, each player is dealt 7 cards. Note: If you want to make the game more challenging, for 4 players deal out 5 cards to each player and for 3 players, deal out 6 cards. Drafting Each player looks at the cards, selects one card from their hand and plays it face down. Once everyone has placed their card face down, players pass their cards to the next player on their left. Repeat. Players continue to place a card face down and pass cards until all of the cards have been used or until a player someone can build a piece of the barn. If two or more players can build the same piece of barn, the first player to place their card face down, grab a stick and place it on the barn piece wins that barn piece card. That player takes the cards used to build the barn piece and the barn piece card and places them face up in a pile next to them to keep for scoring at the end of the game. If there are any undrafted cards, they are all picked up, shuffled and a new set of cards are dealt out for another round of drafting. Only this time, one less card is dealt out. So if player were dealt 6 cards last turn, they only get 5 cards this turn. Trading At the end of a drafting round, players can barter and trade cards. A player may show they have a tool card that they would like to trade for some lumber. Another player with lumber may agreed to the trade. Each card has a trade value list on them. In this example, the tool cards has a trade value of 3. As long as another has one or two lumber cards whose trade value equals 3, they can make the trade. If a player can build a piece of the barn, they take the barn piece card and their cards and place them in a face up pile next to them to keep for scoring at the end of the game. If two or more players can build the same piece of barn, the first player to place their card face down, grab a stick and place it on the barn piece wins that barn piece card. Building a Piece of the Barn Each time a player successfully builds a piece of the barn, that player gets sticks equal to the number listed on their card. They place the sticks in the middle of the table to begin to form the shape of the barn. This is a fun, cooperative way for all the players to see the fruits of their hard work as the barn comes together. Winning This is a cooperative game but there is still a winner. The player with the most experience points listed on the cards they have saved from helping to build the barn are totaled. Extra cards the player has in their face down cards are worth one point. The player with the most experience wins and is crowned the barn raiser elder. 2-Player Variant Each player chooses one card and places it face down in front of them. They place another card face up in the middle of the table. Then they pass their cards like above. Either player can use the cards from the middle when they are ready to build a piece of barn. |
